Nam June Paik on why he got into video art:

I took video, electronic television, out of historical necessity. I thought it would be coming. So I forced myself to do it, but I never really liked electronics or television. Or, really, hard work. I had more fun playing piano, this kind of thing. But I was not a good pianist, so you have to do something. Better to do video than going to stockbroker or working for post office.
